| Well folks.....5th grade is definitely different than kindergarten..and dang, the mouths on those children! I have only three weeks left though. It's currently the last day of spring break for me, and I'm really sad about it. Of course, I got nothing accomplished (except for earning some extra cash). So three weeks from today I will be done student teaching. I'll graduate May 6; it's been five years coming and I couldn't be more excited. May 17th I leave for Myrtle Beach for a vacation with the girls. Then in June I am teaching a Summer School class for the ENL program. Then......well, i don't know. Let's just hope I can get a job in the fall, but things aren't looking so good. Otherwise, I'll be at the good ol' Essenhaus...which is a great job, but I've been there 6 years already; it's time for a change :) Hope everyone else is doing well. For those few that still read this; just thought I'd update you. Happy Spring! | | |
| Well...I've officially completed my first week of student teaching. I'm loving it so far, but I really don't like Kindergarten as much as the older grades. I still think 3rd and 4th grade are the ideal ones to teach, but hey, I'll take what I can get when the time for a job comes along! The kids are so cute though and I always come home with tons of funny stories. I've started taking over a few "lessons" a day, and in about another week and a half I will be teaching full time for at least 4 weeks. Should be interesting and a huge learning experience. I've already learned so much just within this week. The teacher I am with was actually my Kindergarten teacher so that's kinda fun. Hope everyone else that's taking classes this semester has had a good start to the semester!

| Well, the semester is pretty much over with the exception of one final and a unit presentation...oh and a 20 page research paper that I haven't started...eeek. Today I turned in my Checkpoint #2 Portfolio. For those of you non-education majors, this portfolio is a compilation of everything from the past 3 semesters and will be reviewed to determine if I student teach next semester or not. I'm not very worried about not passing, I'm just glad that it's done. I was able to turn it in only 15 minutes before it was due - it was close! heh. So, student teaching is almost a reality for me...i'm super excited and nervous at the same time. January 7th is the big first day, so pretty much between January and the end of April, expect for me to be unreachable, busy beyond all reason, stressed, and perhaps locked in my room typing lesson plans and reflections for hours. I know it's going to be an incredible amount of work, but I don't believe it's killed anyone yet.....and it's what I've been working for for the 5 years, right?? So I say, BRING IT ON! I wish everyone else the best of luck as the semesters are coming to a close and it's that time of year when students are living off of caffeine, pulling all-nighters, and stressing about final exams. Hope to see a lot of you over break!

| I swear I'd lose my head....or trip over it....or something if it wasn't attached. Yeah that's about how my week is going, and it's only Monday!!

| Today I had my first full-day field experience for the semester. The time actually flew by for me so that was good. However, I have come to realize how truly little a teacher can accomplish in one day. There's no wonder teachers can't get everything in they need to...there's just no time. The particular class I'm in this time is a little different than I've had before because there are such levels of diversity (learning styles, intelligence, levels, disabilities, etc.) These students have a really hard time transitioning from one activity to another so it seems like half the time is spent just getting them to calm down so that we can start something new. I could tell this was really frustrating for the teacher. Hopefully I will learn some really good methods of classroom management. I'm really excited about getting out there on my own and teaching, but at the same time I'm so scared.....so overwhelmed with all that has to be done. I know my first few years it will be like a never-ending job....24 hours, 365 days a year minus those few wonderful summer months when I won't be planning quite so much. I'll adapt, right?...haha.
So anyway, hope everyone else is doing well. School is pretty much my life right now. I've really cut down my hours at work (which is gonna suck for my checks...)...but hey, after january I won't have a check for 4 months anyway so I might as well get used to having no money. Donations would be appreciated ... I'm only joking. Have a good rest of the week everyone!
